About Us

Welcome to Roots & Little Wings, a place where all are welcome to join us on our beautiful and wild homeschooling and homesteading journey. We are a family of four living on a small mountain homestead in traditional Cherokee lands in western North Carolina. Our children have always been homeschooled. Life for us is full of adventuring in the forest, tending our gardens and animals and simply enjoying our time learning and growing together.

More about Therie

Hi, I am Therie, momma to the two wildlings in the photo above. One of my passions has always been teaching and nurturing children. I spent many years in the educational field prior to having our own children. I am a former elementary school teacher trained in the Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory Reading Program. I am also a certified classical yoga instructor. I am a RYT at the 200 hour level, and I have taught both kids and adult yoga classes over the years. After teaching first grade several years and running an afterschool program, I started my own elementary tutoring company. My company flourished for over 5 years before we lovingly welcomed our first child into our lives. Soon after he was born, I knew he was my main student and our homeschool journey began. Three years later our second child was born, and he joined in on our homeschooling adventure. I feel so lucky to be both their momma and teacher. My hope is to give our children the gifts of unconditional love and support, and to nurture their roots and little wings in order for them to soar in their journeys of life.

As a lifelong learner myself, I am currently studying traditional folk herbalism, sacred plant medicine and plant communication at The Gaia School of Healing & Earth Education. Over the past several years, I have also participated in several interspecies communication workshops and a mentorship to help deepen my intuitive and communication abilities. I look forward to expanding my offerings in these areas in the near future!
