We have been doing lots of painting this week…painting with water, painting with wooden blocks and now our homemade sidewalk paint. I found the recipe for sidewalk paint online and thought we would give it a try. I am so glad we did because Noah LOVED it!! It was thick, gooey and so much fun for him. It was an art and sensory activity all in one!
To make our homemade sidewalk paint I mixed together in a bowl:
-1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons cornstarch
-1/4 cup water
*Add the water slowly to the cornstarch until you reach your desired consistency. I kept ours a bit thicker for Noah.
*Then pour the mixture into your paint containers.
*Add 1-2 drops of food coloring to make your paint colorful.
That's it! It was very easy!
Noah and I both really enjoyed painting with it. I will say, it was much easier and more fun to use your fingers to paint with than the paintbrushes since it was so thick. We also really liked how as soon as the paint hit the warm sidewalk, it dried into a thick, soft texture. Noah liked the way it felt!
He had so much fun playing in the paint and painting both himself, me and the sidewalk. It was messy, but it washed off very easily with the hose once we were done. Hope you and your little enjoy turning your sidewalk into a creative canvas as much as we did!:)
