I made a drum and shaker using recycled and household items. For the drum, I used a clean, empty flour container. I simply covered the sides and top with brown paper and decorated it for my boy. With older children, they can help you with this step and decorate their drum however they choose using their creativity. For the drum stick, I used a wooden spoon from our kitchen. For the shaker, I used an empty, small Tupperware container from my collection and filled it with dried beans. Noah had so much fun making music using both of these instruments! You can even teach your child the basic 1-2 rhythm and 1-2-3 rhythm using the instruments and see if they can repeat it back.
Here are some of our other favorite musical instruments that we have. These are not homemade. ;)
Wooden drum and shakers
Wooden Xylophone
Have fun making music and memories together!
